A new study conducted at
the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences
suggest that exercise is not only good for expectant
mothers, but may provide benefits for their unborn
babies as well. The study documented improvements
in fetal heart rate, respiratory movements, and central
nervous system control.

23 Year Anniversary Party a Success
It was clear attendees enjoyed themselves at the 23rd
anniversary Malibu Fitness party, last Sunday, March
15. Observing from all corners of the facility I felt
proud to see the many smiling faces of members and
non-members alike, joking and interacting with each
other. People gathered outside feasting on mouth-watering
food, mingling and enjoying the live music played
by the Funkadelics. Inside, people watched the different
class demonstrations attentively and applauded the
great dance performances by Lavinia and Corey’s
dance groups. The celebration was a great opportunity
for prospects to become familiar with the culture
and atmosphere that has made the club Malibu’s
top choice when it comes to fitness. Club Manager
Ignacio Rodriguez was really pleased with the event,
“I am really happy with this turnout. I am looking
around and everyone is having a blast. Something has
to be said for what Lonnie (owner) has done for this
community, look around and you’ll understand
the impact she’s made on everyone’s lives”.

MALIBU FITNESS

The community is invited
to help Malibu Fitness celebrate its 23rd year anniversary,
Sunday, March 15, with food, music, dance, a raffle
and more. Malibu Fitness will open its doors from
noon to 3:00pm in an open-house-style event where
local residents (members and non-members alike) can
come and celebrate 23 years of health and fitness
with the staff.
In addition, select
class demonstrations will be scheduled in 30-minute
time slots, so this is a great day to check out the
different classes that we offer. Instructors will
be available after demonstrations to answer questions.
Featured classes will include Spinning, Ball Class,
Cardio KickBoxing, Pilates, Yoga, and our brand new
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class. Attendees will also be
able to check out the facility and meet with trainers
for personal consultations.
There will be
refreshments and food, and a raffle of memberships

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: Now Tuesdays, Thursdays
and Sundays
Our new Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
(BJJ) class is off to a great start, attracting to
the club martial arts enthusiasts of all ages, sizes
and skill levels.
BJJ is a martial
art and combat sport that focuses on grappling and
ground fighting. It promotes the principle that any
person, regardless of size and weight, can use leverage
and proper technique to successfully defend against
bigger, stronger opponents. For every technique taught
in class there also exists a counter-move or a way
to escape, making this style of fighting comparable
to physical game of chess. On the ground one can perform
a number of maneuvers to manipulate the opponent into
a suitable position for the execution of a submission.
Submission moves such as chokeholds and joint-locks
are hence the equivalent of checkmate in the sport.
The class is a great
work out and requires constant use of all your body
parts while keeping the brain engaged in the activity.
BJJ is all about learning together as a family so
egos are left at the door, allowing camaraderie to
exist and grow. So come check it out, first class

Good News About Coffee

Coffee lovers may be raising their cups—and
perhaps eyebrows—at the recent news (in the
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry) that the
drink contains soluble fiber, the type that can help
lower cholesterol. With about 1 gram per cup, coffee's
fiber impact is modest. But the report is the latest
in a growing stream of positive news about coffee.
